Bilyana Chokoeva-Angelova, PhD, was born in 1976 in Ruse. She graduated from the „Prof. Vesselin Stoyanov“ Music School (piano, master class with Prof. Sequeira Costa/USA) and the National Academy of Music „Pancho Vladigerov“ (music pedagogy and musicology). She holds a PhD in Polyphony and has worked as an editor, host, and reporter at the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) („Music for You“, „Allegro Vivace“, „Casta Diva“) and as a music producer for BNR. She graduated with honors from the Royal College of Music – London (piano and theory). She is the author of scholarly and artistic articles in the journals „Bulgarian Musicology“, „Musical Horizons“, „Music Yesterday, Today“. She has taught music at the 4th Secondary School (1998-1999), the American College of Sofia, and the National Music School „Lyubomir Pipkov“ (harmony and polyphony).

Bilyana Chokoeva-Angelova is a composer and lyricist of contemporary Bulgarian music. Her works are performed by singers such as Miro and Koyna Ruseva („Navisoko“, 2019 – BG Radio Award, record in BNR Top 20), Mariana Popova („Istina“), Margarita Hranova („San“, „Ti“, „Po patya“, „Moyat den badi“, „Nevidimi struni“, „Ti si drug“), Petya Buyuklieva („Ne zaspivay“, „Dokoga“, „Perlen zvun“, „Kasen motiv“), Zhaklin Tarakchi („Kakao“, „Feniks“), Vesela Delcheva („Disham“), Hristina Zhivkova („Nerodeni slova“, „Izgubeni mechti“), Kremena Encheva („Izvore“), Ana-Maria Yanakieva, Valeria Stoyanova, Viktoria Glavcheva, and others.

She is the author of the Anthem of the „Friedrich Schiller“ German Language High School (music and lyrics, arrangement by Georgi Tsvetkov, German text by Ivelin Krumov).

Children’s and youth music hold an important place in her work. She was a regular contributor to „Melody of the Water“, „Sofia Sings“, „Spring“ BNR, „Singing Artists“ (until 2024). She is a recipient of awards from „Golden Spring“ BNR (Audience and Debut 2015), the Union of Bulgarian Composers (2015, „Lyre of Orpheus“), two media awards („Sofia Sings“, „BNR Top 20 Annual Awards“), and a BG Radio award for video and song (2020). She co-authored the music for the documentary film „Gundi and Kotkov“.

She has interests in other arts as well. Since 2018, she has been a regular contributor to „ARTisanin“ magazine (artistic articles, interviews with Heiner Goebbels, Kaija Saariaho, Anja Lechner, Evgeni Bozhanov, Sofia Gubaidulina, Liu Shen, Tan Dun, Unsuk Chin, etc.).

She has recorded with instrumentalists such as Angel Zaberski, Teodosii Spasov, Antoni Donchev, Momchil Kolev, Svetlin Roussev, Stoyan Yankoulov-Stundzhi, and others, as well as with conductors Dimitar Kosev, Georgi Miltiyadov, and Hristo Pavlov.

She is currently working on an anthem for the Italian Lyceum and a musical. She dedicates songs to the memory of Ivan Vladimirov–NAV and Emil Boyadzhiev and strives to reach a young audience with meaningful messages.
